Top 11 Best Golf Rangefinders – In Depth Reviews

1. Bushnell Tour V3 Rangefinder

Bushnell Tour V3 Slope Edition Golf Laser Rangefinder, White
  • Single hand vertical operation with 5x magnification and a 24mm objective
  • Range finding performance of 10 to 1,000 yards; 300 yards to flag with +/- one yard of accuracy
  • Pin Seeker Technology with Jolt Vibration activated when Pin Seeker is triggered; SCAN mode provides continuously updated LCD display as you pan across landscape

Our first stop is with the Bushnell Tour V3. When it comes to rangefinders, Bushnell is one of the top manufacturers, and we will see this brand a lot on this list. I have had extensive experience with Bushnell Rangefinders, and I have to say that I am more than satisfied with everything the company makes. So, let’s take a look at what the Tour V3 has to offer.

Performance

When it comes to performance, this rangefinder has everything you need to get an edge on the course. The device has a 5x magnification setting, which is perfect for lining up your next shot. A 24 mm viewscreen is wide enough to give you a full picture but narrow enough to make sure that you stay focused.

Compact Design

What I like about the Tour V3 is that it is compact and ergonomic. Most rangefinders are already small, but this is more convenient and practical than other models. The soft grip on the outside makes it easier to use and helps you navigate your way to the hole.

Range

The range on this device is more than sufficient for your needs. The minimum distance is ten yards, with a maximum yardage of 1000. While you can go that far, however, the ideal range of the Tour V3 is 300 yards. That means that if you go up to 1000, you may not get as accurate of a reading as you would otherwise. The reason for that is any swaying or shaking that comes from holding the device is amplified the further you go, so it’s hard to pinpoint a target at that distance.

Pinseeker technology

One thing that is great about the Tour V3 (and all Bushnell rangefinders) is that it comes with Pinseeker technology. What that means is that the laser automatically detects the flag, so you don’t have to worry about pinpointing it if it’s obstructed or in front of some trees. Other rangefinders require you to set your target, but this will lock onto the flag without any hassle. You can also scan in real time when searching for the hole, and it will update automatically.

Weatherproof

Finally, the best part about the Tour V3 is that it comes in a durable, weatherproof case which means that it will work in rain or shine. Also, it comes with Bushnell’s incredible two-year warranty, meaning that it’s built to last.

2. Precision Pro Golf NX7 Rangefinder (Non-Slope)

Precision Pro Golf NX7 Pro Slope Rangefinder, Golf Rangefinder, Golf Accessories, 6X Magnification, Tournament Legal, Weather Resistant, Adaptive Slope, 600 Yard Range
  • NEW MODEL GOLF RANGEFINDER WITH SLOPE SWITCH : The Precision Pro Golf NX7 Pro Slope Golf Range Finder has been re-designed with a tournament legal slope switch, and faster laster. The NX7 Pro provides fast, accurate distances. NX7 Pro Slope is easy to use, reliable and helps you play better golf.
  • ADAPTIVE SLOPE TECHNOLOGY: Our NX7 Pro Slope golf laser rangefinder is infused with Pro Slope technology that provides a “play as” distance to make club selection simple. The slope function can be easily turned off for legal tournament play.
  • CLEAR, QUICK, PRECISE: Built with crystal clear optics, 6X magnification, and precise technology, the NX7 Pro Slope Golf Rangefinders for Golfing produces quick yardage of a golf ball’s distance to the hole and is easy to use, even for golfers with shaky hands.

Unlike many other of the rangefinders in this list, this particular model was made exclusively with golfing perfomance in mind.

For that reason, it is legal to use in competitions and is a great choice for it’s amazing price/value relation.

You won’t find a cheaper rangefinder in this list. Yet, it goes head to head with most models in the list. It reaches its limits in terms of range at 400 yards, though we have found that many of the other competing models with larger ranges become very volatile at this range. The NX7 Rangefinder with Slope goes up to 600 yards, but the difference is it measures by 1 yard increments.

Precise

Unlike many of the other counterparts in this list, the NX7 measures in 1/10 increments, rather than 1 yard increments. This gives the golfer a higher level of precision, specially in the shorter shots.

Golf Specific Technology

The adaptive slope technology (AST) and the pulse vibration technology are the main differentiators of this product. The AST feature allows you to measure distance as “play as”, so that you can better select the club to use. The pulse vibration technology will cause a small vibration every time you hit the target.

Pros

  • Made just for golf
  • Legal to use in competition
  • 6X Zoom
  • Vibration technology for smoother viewing
  • Range between 10-400 yards

3. Bushnell Tour X Rangefinder

Bushnell 201540 Bushnell Tour X Jolt Golf Laser GPS/Rangefinder, White
  • Exchange technology offers you Slope when you want it and makes it tournament legal when you need it
  • Dual Display Technology lets you toggle between bright red display or the crisp black display based on lighting conditions or user preference
  • PinSeeker with JOLT Technology provides feedback that you have locked onto the flag

Next, we have the Tour X. As I mentioned, Bushnell will be turning up a lot on this list because of the commitment to quality that I’ve seen from the company. When comparing all of the Bushnell devices, you will see that many of them have the same kind of technological features. As we progress, however, each model will be an upgrade to the previous version, meaning that you can pinpoint exactly what features are most important to you and decide based on that.

Design

The Tour X has a sleek design to it, and it fits perfectly into your hand. Soft grip edges help you stabilize your shot so that you can get an accurate reading no matter what.

The view screen on this model is a little bigger than the Tour V3, and the magnification is a bit more powerful. The X comes with a 6x lens, meaning that you can see farther and with more clarity.

Range

When talking about range, this version is a step up from the V3.The minimum distance is only five yards (which looks incredibly close with 6x magnification), and the maximum is a whopping 1,300 yards. As I mentioned above, though, the farther out you get the harder it is to pinpoint an exact target However, it is perfect if you are trying to measure the distance to a big point, such as a hill or a lake. In this case, the ideal range is about 450 yards, which is more than enough to line up your next shot.

Technology

In addition to the grips helping you stabilize yourself, the X comes with proprietary anti-vibration technology. That means that you should be able to lock onto a target even if you don’t have the steady hands of a surgeon to guide you. You can scan in real time or find a target and then activate the laser. Because it’s Bushnell, the X also comes with the Pinseeker option, meaning that you should have no trouble locking onto the flag, regardless of its position or what’s around it.

Accuracy

What sets the X apart is the fact that you can adjust the screen to optimize your target. You can choose either red or black reticles, depending on which works best for you and your eyes. Also, this model has the option to include slope adjustment, which means that you can get the true distance to your target, even if it is on an incline.

Rainproof & Warranty

Finally, the X comes with Bushnell’s patented rainproof housing and a two-year limited warranty on parts and labor.

Pros

  • Sleek, ergonomic design
  • Soft grip edges
  • 6x magnification
  • Range between five and 1,300 yards
  • Ideal range of 450 yards
  • Measures in half-yard increments
  • Vibration technology for smoother movement

4. Bushnell Pro X7 Rangefinder

Bushnell Pro X7 Slope Golf Laser Rangefinder with JOLT
  • Pin seeker with jolt technology ensures you know when you hit the flag
  • Ranges from 5 yards to 1 mile; 550+ yards to flags; 1/2 yard accuracy from 5 to 125 yards
  • Slope technology provides compensated distance based on the hole's incline/decline; 7X magnification and premium HD optics ensure bright clear images

Moving right along we come to the Pro X7 model. When looking at the different rangefinders on this list, you will notice that this model is different than the others.

Design

The Pro X7 is one of my favorite devices because it has a horizontal layout rather than a vertical one. That means that it’s much easier to hold, especially if you take your time to find the target. Overall, the design and the list of features makes this one of the best rangefinders you can buy.

Performance & Range

As far as performance goes, the Pro X7 is above and beyond what you would expect. The view screen is large enough for most users, and the clarity is sublime. With 7x magnification, you can spot the flag (as well as any other obstacles) without any delay.

The range of the Pro X7 is phenomenal as well. The minimum distance is five yards, but you can scan out for a whole mile and still get an accurate reading. For best results, however, you will want to stick to a range of about 550 yards. To give you an idea of how precise this model is, it measures in half-yard increments.

Technology & warranty

Compared to the other models we’ve seen, the Pro X7 comes with all the usual refinements, included anti-vibration technology as well as the Pinseeker option for finding the flag right away. This model also has a waterproof casing and still comes with Bushnell’s two-year warranty.

Pros

  • Horizontal layout
  • Ergonomic design
  • Soft grip
  • 7x magnification
  • Range between five yards to one mile
  • Ideal range is 550 yards

5. Bushnell Tour Z6 Jolt Rangefinder

Bushnell Tour Z6 Golf Laser Rangefinder with JOLT
  • Pin Seeker with JOLT technology ensures you know when you hit the flag
  • Ranges from 5 to 1,300 yards; 450+ yards to flags; 1/2 yard accuracy from 5 to 125 yards
  • 6x magnification; fully waterproof

The last Bushnell that we will look at (for now) is the Tour Z6. This is something of a variation of the X model, and you will notice that a lot of the features are similar when you compare the two.

Compact Design

However, what sets the Z6 apart is the design, which is a bit more ergonomic and easier to use. The size of the Z6 makes it easier to hold for most users, and the eye relief is extended so you can make full use of the view screen. Personally, I like extended eye reliefs as they make it easier to block out sunlight when searching for a target.

Magnification

The Z6 has everything you need to line up the perfect shot. 6x magnification, coupled with a high-definition screen makes it easier than ever to see where you’re going and to spot the flag.

Range

The range of this model is more than sufficient for any golfer, with a minimum distance of five yards and a maximum yardage of 1,300. In this case, the ideal zone you want to stay in is about 450 yards so you can get the best results.

Technology & Warranty

Additional features of the Z6 include anti-vibration technology to help stabilize your shot, a Pinseeker option to lock onto the flag immediately and precise measurement to within a half yard. As with all Bushnell devices, it comes with waterproof housing and a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

Pros

  • Compact design
  • Extended eye relief
  • 6x magnification
  • Range between five and 1,300 yards

This handy laser range finder added extra convenience and confidence, perfect for carrying while golfing or hunting, or for measuring and surveying without extra weight or bulk.

Our next stop is the VPRO500 from TecTecTec. This is a smaller company than Bushnell, meaning that you won’t find as many options, but the 500 model is a fantastic compact rangefinder. If you need something quick and easy to help you plan your next shot, then this is an ideal way to go. I would highly recommend this model for casual golfers who want to get more of an edge out on the course

Performance

The performance of the VPRO500 is less than some of the Bushnell Rangefinders, but you still get more than enough to help you improve your game. The view screen is in high-definition, and it provides 6x magnification so that you can see everything with crystal clarity. Measuring in one-yard increments, you can go from five yards all the way out to 540. It stays accurate all the way, meaning there is no “ideal range” with this device.

Pinseeker Option

What I also like about the VPRO500 is that it comes with a proprietary version of the Pinseeker option offered by Bushnell.

That means that you can pinpoint the flag immediately without having to worry about any obstructions getting in your way. You can also scan continuously with this model, and it will update automatically.

Water Resistant & Warranty

Finally, the VPRO500 comes with water-resistant housing and even includes a free extra battery, so you’re prepared on the links. Also, you get a comprehensive two-year warranty in case anything happens while you’re out in the field.

Accuracy and Range

As far as range goes, the Gx gives you accurate readings between 5 and 700 yards, with a 6x magnification to help you see where you’re going. The precision is one of the best, giving you readings down a 1/10 of a yard. The ideal zone for this model is about 450 yards.

Pinseeker Technology

Leupold has its own version of the Pinseeker technology called PinHunter 2, meaning that you can still lock onto the flag when scanning the area. You also get anti-vibration tech to help you stabilize your shot. Finally, there is even a fog mode you can toggle on and off just in case the morning air is thicker than normal.

As makers of high-quality cameras, it makes sense that Nikon would venture into rangefinders to help golfers make the most of their game. In this case, the ACULON is the first model that Nikon offers, and it is perfect for casual players who want something to help them get an edge on the course. This particular model would be comparable to the VPRO500 from TecTecTec, although I find that Nikon products are a bit more durable and reliable.

Nikon 8397 ACULON Features

The ACULON has a range of six yards to 550 yards, which means that you get amazing accuracy all the way out. You don’t have to worry about an “ideal zone” for this rangefinder, which is a nice feature. What I like about this model is that it comes with one-button operation, making it much easier to use than some of the other devices on this list. That even goes for the display, which is about as minimalist as you can get. That, coupled with a high-definition multi-coated lens means that the ACULON is one of the clearest rangefinders that you can buy.

Waterproof

Finally, as with most of these devices, the ACULON comes with waterproof housing and a rainproof covering. So whether you golf in good or bad weather, you should be able to use this device.

  • ENGINEERED AND BACKED BY NIKON – A 100+ YEAR OLD OPTICS AND TECHNOLOGY LEADER. Industry Leading 5-year . Rainproof (IPx4).

Our last Nikon rangefinder is the appropriately named Coolshot 20 GII, the successor of the Coolshot 20. This is a simpler version of the ones that we’ve seen thus far, so if you’re looking for something a bit more cost effective and easy to use, then this might be the right one for you.

Range

When looking at the range of this device, you’ll see that it it improved from 550 yards in the original model now from 6 to 800 yards. The one downside is that over 100 yards you will get 2 yard increment readings as opposed to 1 yard increments under 100 yards, but for most that isn’t a big deal. To that end, the Coolshot has a range of 800 yards, with an ideal range of about 400. That should be more than enough to get you to your next point, or to the flag.

Technology & Magnification

Speaking of the flag, the Coolshot comes with proprietary seeking technology so you can pinpoint the hole with accuracy and precision. It also provides Long Eye Relieft to use with eyeglasses and sunglasses. Single or continuious targeting lasts up to 8 seconds witout having to wait for a second indicator when trying to measure different targets. Finally, because it has a 6x magnification setting, you should have no problem seeing the flag no matter where you are.

Compact Design

Other notable features of this rangefinder include HD clarity and optics, continuous scanning mode, and a water-resistant covering so that you can use it in almost any weather conditions. The design of the Coolshot 20 G2 is also optimized to be both compact and ergonomic. This device also comes with a two-year limited warranty.

10. Callaway 300 Pro Slope Laser Rangefinder

Sale
Callaway Golf 300 Pro Slope Laser Rangefinder
  • Precise Slope Measurement: Our highly accurate laser rangefinder accounts for elevation changes and measures the angle of incline/decline, then calculates the slope adjusted distance
  • Maximum Magnification: Equipped with 6x magnification, our rangefinders for golfing feature a range of 5-1000 yards with +/- 1 yard accuracy and even measure in both yards and meters
  • Pin-Locking Technology: Our precise laser measure with Pin Acquisition Technology (P.A.T.) allows you to lock onto a pin up to 300 yards away

If you’ve spent any amount of time in pro shops, then you are most likely familiar with the brand Callaway. This company is famous for making high-quality golf gear, including balls and bags that are second to none. Thus, it would make perfect sense that the brand would venture into devices such as rangefinders to help golfers on the course. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the 300 Pro Slop Laser Rangefinder.

As far as these devices go, Callaway has made something that is decent, if not overly memorable. Many of the features on this rangefinder are found elsewhere, so what it will really come down to is brand loyalty. So, if you’re a big fan of Callaway and trust the company, then this might be the rangefinder for you.

Performance

The performance of this device is better than some, with a max range of 1000 yards.

However, for best results you have to stay within about 300 yards to be able to use their Pin-Locking Technology on the flag. Unfortunately, this particular model doesn’t come with anti-vibration technology, so if you have shaky hands and outside 300 yards it won’t lock onto your target. When locked in, you’ll get a short vibration to let you know that you’ve locked onto the flag with their pulse confirmation.

Scanning Mode & Waterproof

What I do like about this rangefinder is that it does lock onto the flag and it has a continuous scanning mode. Also, you can find distances for multiple targets at once easily. I also like that the casing is water and fog resistant, meaning that you should be able to use it freely no matter the weather conditions. Additionally, the slope feature accounts for inces and declines to more accurately give you a better distance. Overall, this is a decent rangefinder.

Pros

  • Compact, ergonomic design
  • 6x magnification
  • Range between 5 and 1000 yards
  • Ideal range of 300 yards
  • Measures in one yard or one meter increments
  • Locks onto flag under 300 yards
  • Continuous scanning available
  • Fog resistant
  • Waterproof housing

Cons

  • Battery life is less than other models
  • Screen may go dark unexpectedly
  • In rare cases, it may not find the flag

Highlighted Features

  • Range of 5-1000 yards
  • 6x magnification setting
  • Pinseeker technology with pulse confirmation
  • Fog and water resistant

11. Simmons 801405 Rangefinder 4x20LRF 600

Simmons 801405 Rangefinder, 4x20LRF 600
  • 4x Optical magnification
  • 5-600 yard capacity, accurate to +/- 1 yard
  • Simple one-button operation

At the end of our list, we have the Simmons 801405 Rangefinder. As I mentioned above, this section is all about devices that do not have slope adjustment. Thus, these are all tournament legal and will show you the straight distance to the hole, rather than the true measurement.

Design

That being said, the Simmons model is relatively simple and straightforward. It doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it does an admirable job of pinpointing your next target. I would highly recommend this device for any golfer that doesn’t want to rely on a rangefinder too often but would like something easy to use for when it’s practical.

Performance

The performance of this device is on the lower end of the spectrum, with a range of 600 yards. The ideal span for this rangefinder is about 400 yards, which makes it shorter than some of the other ones we’ve seen.

Also, the magnification setting is at 4x, which means that you won’t be able to see much further anyway.

Technology

I do like the fact that this rangefinder has anti-vibration technology, and it uses a 9-volt battery, rather than a proprietary one. Most of these rangefinders require that you buy separate batteries from the company, so being able to use a standard 9-volt is a nice touch.

Pros

  • Compact design

Best Golf Rangefinders with Slope Reviews

For this next section, I will be showing you rangefinders that have a slope setting. This means that you get a true distance to your next shot, as it will take into account whether you’re on an incline or decline. This can be incredibly useful on the course, but that does mean that these are not legal for tournaments. Thus, if you do compete often, I would suggest that you don’t rely on slope settings very often.

1. Bushnell Tour V3 with Slope

We’ve already seen the Tour V3, which means that almost all of the features and settings will be identical to the model above. However, because this version has slope adjustment built in, you get a few extra perks for choosing this one over the standard rangefinder. As I’ve said, Bushnell is one of my favorite brands, and I highly recommend them to anyone.

Range

The V3 comes with a range of up to 1000 yards and has a magnification setting of 5x. While the max range is huge, the ideal distance is only 300 yards, making it less valuable than some of the other ones we’ve seen.

However, when you take slope adjustment into account, this model outperforms some of the standard models listed above.

Slope

What I like about the Tour V3 is that you can turn the slope setting off with a push of a button. That means that this device will work in competition and on your own, making it much more valuable overall.

Pros

  • Sleek design
  • 5x magnification
  • Range between five to 1000 yards
  • Ideal range of 300 yards
  • Measures in one-yard increments
  • Pinseeker technology locks onto flag
  • Weatherproof housing
  • Automatic slope adjustment
  • Turn slope reading on or off
  • Two-year limited warranty

Cons

  • In rare cases, battery may die unexpectedly
  • May not find flag immediately

  • Range of 5-1000 yards
  • 5x magnification setting
  • Automatic slope adjustment

Next, we have the premiere version of the VPRO500 from TecTecTec. Like the Bushnell V3 above, this rangefinder will have a lot of the same features as the standard model, with the significant addition of a slope adjustment setting. As I mentioned earlier, the VPRO is ideal for those golfers who want something simple and efficient. You may not get the same range as some of the higher end devices, but you still get more than enough power to line up your next shot.

Range & Technology

What makes the VPRO so great is that it has everything you need. Although it doesn’t have quite as much zest as other rangefinders, the brand has not skimped on the basics. That means that your range is limited to 540 yards, but you still get anti-vibration technology, continuous scanning, and the ability to lock onto the flag.

Most of the models that have slope adjustment are variations of ones that we’ve looked at already, but the Breaking 80 Rangefinder is one of a kind. That being said, there are some excellent features that you can find with this particular model, making it one of the better versions with slope adjustment

Range & Magnification

First of all, the range of the Breaking 80 is not remarkable. That being said, a max distance of 500 yards is pretty good and should give you plenty of room to line up your next shot. What I do like about this version, though, is that it has HD optics and 6x magnification, making it super easy to see your next target.

Accuracy

The thing that I like most about this rangefinder is that it comes with a toggle switch for the slope adjustment.

That means that if you do compete you can still use this device as long as you turn that feature off. What also makes this device unique is the fact that you can switch between meters and yards, meaning that you can get as accurate as you want depending on your preference.

Guarantee

Finally, this rangefinder comes with an incredible 60-day money back guarantee as well as a limited lifetime warranty. Thus, you can purchase this device worry free as you have plenty of time to decide if it’s right for you. That’s a great deal in my book.

Next, we have the Bushnell Pro X7 again. This model is a step up from the V3, and gives you more range and more features, making it a great buy. As far as performance goes, the Pro X7 is one of the best models you will see on this list.

Performance

What makes this rangefinder so special is that you get a full range of one mile. While accuracy does drop off after 550 yards, if you stabilize your device you can see where the hole is no matter where you are. You could potentially spot the flag from the clubhouse if you wanted to. This feature coupled with the automatic slope adjustment means that you can map out each hole as precisely as you want, with changes depending on the type of club you use. Overall, you won’t find the same level of performance with any other rangefinder.

Other things that I like about the Pro X7 is that it comes with a waterproof case, it has soft grip edges to help you stabilize your shot, and it comes with Bushnell’s two-year warranty.

Our final rangefinder of all is the Tour V4. As you can imagine, this is the updated version of the V3. Although it doesn’t have the same level of performance as the Pro X7, you still get a lot of bang for your buck.

Range & Magnification

The range for the V4 is up to 1000 yards, with an ideal distance setting of 400 yards. You get 5x magnification with this model, which is just enough to give you a clear vision of the flag, even at max distance. How To Choose The Best Golf Rangefinders: Buyer’s Guide

Although this machine is straightforward with regards to how it works and operates, there are still some things that you should consider before deciding on a model to buy. With that in mind, here are the primary features of best golf rangefinders that you should be looking at when comparing models.

Size

For the most part, rangefinders are compact and somewhat small. That does mean that they are easy to carry and store in your bag, but some of them are a little too tiny, meaning that it can be difficult to use for some people. Also, there are two styles from which you can choose. The first resembles a camcorder, meaning that you hold it on the side. The second kind of rangefinder works like a set of binoculars, meaning that it sits horizontally, rather than vertically. Personally, I prefer this kind, but they are few and far between.

Range

When it comes to measuring distances, you want to be as accurate as possible. Thus, you will need to make sure that you get a rangefinder that has a sufficient scope so you can get a precise readout no matter where you are in relation to the hole. Most golf rangefinders will have a minimum and maximum operating range, which means that for ideal results you will stick to the middle area. Lower-end models will cap off at about 350 yards, whereas higher-end versions can go up to half a mile.

Accuracy

Once you have a total range, the next thing you will need to look at is the measurement between distances. For some units, it will measure in one-yard increments. For higher end pieces, however, it can be more precise and give you one-quart yard measurements. To know which one is best will be determined by your own preference. Some golfers are find knowing the distance to the yard, but some may prefer to have a more accurate reading.

Slope Adjustment

Most top rangefinders are legal for tournament play, which can make them indispensable on the course. However, some models are illegal, but it depends on if it comes with a slope adjustment. What that means is that the device will compensate for the incline or decline of the course, rather than giving you a straight-shot measurement. If you want to get a more accurate reading, having a slope adjustment is ideal, but again, it’s not tournament legal, so if you do compete often, then it might not be worth it.

What is a Golf Rangefinder?

At its core, a rangefinder is something akin to a laser pointer. The way it works is that it shoots a beam and then measures the distance between it and the point where it hits something. Think of it like digital measuring tape. If you want to know exactly how far the flag is from you, then a rangefinder can tell you within seconds.

The device itself operates in the same way as a monocular. That means that you put your eye to the hole and you will see the readout in real time. You can also move to different areas and measure the distance between different objects, such as trees or the flag.

Types of Golf Rangefinders

Now that we’ve seen a wide array of rangefinders let’s look at the difference between laser-guided and GPS models. So far, we’ve only seen ones that use lasers, but some golfers will prefer GPS. To better understand why let’s compare the two models.

Laser Rangefinders

As you have seen, the laser rangefinders have a lot of things that make them ideal companions on the course. They are compact, easy to use, and can provide accurate measurements no matter where you are. In fact, accuracy and precision are the biggest reasons that golfers prefer laser finders, as they can get distances within a single yard. The other major advantage of using one of these models is that you can take it onto any course and use it, unlike some GPS rangefinders.

The biggest setback for these devices, however, is the cost. Even on the low end of the spectrum, they will set you back a couple hundred bucks, which is why some golfers avoid them. Also, if you have shaky hands, then you may have a hard time spotting the flag when you’re out on the links.

Pros

  • Highly accurate
  • Easy to use
  • Can be utilized on any course

Cons

  • Takes longer to use
  • More expensive

GPS Rangefinders

If you want to get a bird’s eye view of the golf course, then nothing compares to having a GPS enabled rangefinder. These devices give you a map of the area, showing you hazards along with the fairway and green. It will even highlight the flag so that you can chart your course before you take a single swing. Overall, these devices can be very helpful to anyone who likes to plan ahead and wants to see everything all at once. They can be quite handy for new courses.

The biggest setback for these rangefinders, however, is that you have to make sure that the map is uploaded and current in the system. If you go to a course that isn’t on your device, then it will not help you at all. Also, GPS rangefinders can give you a good yardage reading, but they are not as accurate as laser-guided, so you will still have to do some eyeballing and estimating.

Pros

  • Cost effective
  • Fast and efficient operation
  • Shows you the whole course at once, including hazards

Cons

  • Not as accurate as laser
  • Course maps have to be downloaded

Final Review of the Best Golf Rangefinders

When looking at each of these rangefinders, I will have to say that I would highly recommend any model that gives you the option of having a slope adjustment. If you have never used a rangefinder with that ability, you will be amazed at how much it helps on the course. With that in mind, my top picks are the Bushnell Tour V3 or the Bushnell Tour Z6. Both of these have the range, accuracy, and clarity that you need to get the most out of your game. If you don’t care about slope adjustment, then I would suggest the Leupold or the Callaway models, as they have the best design and readout.
